Getting ready photos are the opening act to a award winning play you have spent months planning. As your photographer I like to start with the bride just as her hair and make-up are getting there final touches just before she puts on her wedding gown. Then I can visit the groom’s room while the bride gets a few moments to rest and celebrate with her bridesmaids. This allows me the luxury of capturing both the bride and the groom preparing for their big day. However, the getting ready photos are more than just hair and makeup. They are special moments between you, your wedding party and family. They are details and moments that will tell the whole story of your day.
How to Highlight Your Special Wedding Details
One of the advantages of getting ready pictures is that they give your photographer an opportunity to capture all the small details of the day -your beautiful invitations, the flowers in your bouquet, rings, your hair and veil. I also love to capture the intricate details of the wedding gown. All of these are items you carefully selected and you will want to remember forever.
How to Help Overcome Pre Wedding Camera Shyness
You will be all-nerves on your wedding day and getting ready photos will give you a little extra time to shed your camera shyness. If you are self conscious in front of the camera, just having your photographer in the room taking unposed photos can help relieve some of that camera nervousness. By the time you see your partner for the first time, you will barely notice that camera. Your attention can be on your fiancé and family - and not on your photographer.
What Quiet Candid Moments to Capture While Getting Ready For Your Wedding
Some of the most beautiful moments I have witnessed at a wedding are those that are between the bride and her loved ones before the party begins. For example, the moment when your mom or other family member helps get you into your dress, or grandmother helps to clasp her vintage bracelet for a borrowed item should be captured. And the look on your father’s face when he sees his little girl as the amazing woman he knew you would always be should be preserved.
Could You Add Boudoir Portraits To Your Wedding Day
If you add some additional time during your getting ready photos, your photographer can capture some boudoir portraits. They don’t have to be a full boudoir session - just a few photos. You will already have hair and makeup done, so simply add some beautiful undergarments and a bridal robe. You will have the perfect items for a mini-boudoir session!
My Must-Have Wedding Getting Ready Photos
Your album will be full of must-have moments and some that I always try to include are:
All the details, Dress, invites, rings, shoes, flowers, special jewelry
Having your makeup and hair completed
Family member/ Bridesmaids helping with the dress
Dad/Mom first look
Bridal Boudoir
Getting Ready Photos Complete Your Album
Getting ready photos will complete your wedding album. Your wedding day will go by so fast so knowing you will have a complete album will give you an opportunity to slow down and breathe. Your wedding album will also allow those family and friends who couldn’t be there to see your wedding day from start to finish. You and your partner will be able to see the moments you didn't spend together. All your treasured moments will be captured and placed into a beautiful curated album to enjoy for years to come.
