Kacie and Jordan's wedding at Lake Wilderness Lodge in Maple Valley, was a perfect blending of love, laughter, and Hawaiian traditions. It's not every day you get a chance to photograph a wedding for someone you met during physical therapy! Jordan was my therapist while I was recovering from a hip injury, and we bonded instantly over our shared love of Hawaii. When he mentioned that he and Kacee wanted to incorporate their Hawaiian heritage into the wedding day, I was excited to be a part of it.
Kacie started her day getting her hair and makeup done at her aunt's house. She was surrounded by her mom, aunt, and bridesmaids. The energy in the room was fun, filled with laughter and a few happy tears. Meanwhile, Jordan and the groomsmen were setting up for the ceremony and reception—a true labor of love! They finished getting ready in the Lodge's spacious bridal and groom suites. Kacee's choice of non-traditional bridesmaid dresses, each in a different color and style, was absolutely stunning. Whle the girls were touching up their makeup Jordan and his groomsmen started things off with a toast.
Jordan and Kacie opted for a "First look" which we choose to do in the arboretum attached to the Lodge. This was one of my favorite moments from the day: that serene, green space with that beautiful backdrop to set up a very emotional and heartfelt meeting between these two. By scheduling this time before the ceremony it allowed us to take a variety of portraits, from sweet moments with their parents to some fun with the wedding party. First looks are always recommended to my couples; it's such a great way to calm nerves and have some extra time together before the ceremony.
The outdoor ceremony was held against the beautiful backdrop of Lake Wilderness on a sunny Pacific Northwest day. Their dogs, proudly serving as ring bearers, stole the show as they trotted down the aisle. Kacie's uncle officiated, sharing hilarious stories about the couple that had everyone laughing. From the bride's gorgeous Haku flower lei to a special dance performed by their cousins, the Hawaiian touches truly made the ceremony unique.
And the reception was a full-on party! There was a roasted pig, done true Hawaiian style, delicious gelato from Nutty Squirrel, and an always-busy photo booth. Theri friends and family toasted the couple with equal parts touching and entertaining words. The dance floor was packed the whole night. Kacee and Jordan's happiness was contagious, and I honestly had just as much fun photographing their wedding as their guests did celebrating it.
Lake Wilderness Lodge was the perfect setting on this unforgettable day: the view of the lake and its bright, light spaces are unmatched. It was an honor to shoot Kacie and Jordan's wedding and to be able to participate in a celebration so filled with love, culture, and connection. Wishing this incredible couple a lifetime of happiness.
