In the heart of Maple Valley, Lake Wilderness Lodge is the set for one of the sweetest, l weddings I’ve had the honor to photograph. Steven and Candice planned a small, heartfelt celebration with their closest family and friends. Every part of the day was a great combination of culture, and love.
They started the morning with a first look at the Lake Wilderness Arboretum, just steps from the lodge. It was quiet, peaceful, and absolutely perfect for that frist tender moment between the two of them before the ceremony. The morning gave us a beautiful window of time to capture some relaxed portraits and family photos, surrounded by lush greenery and winding garden paths. The early morning light filtering through the trees created beautiful pictures.
The ceremony itself took place inside Lake Wilderness Lodge, which has this warm, lodge-style charm with views of the lake and the evergreens. With big windows and beautiful light, it is the perfect place for an intimate wedding. But what made it truly special were the personal touches Steven and Candice added—especially the nods to Steven’s time living in Japan. From the intricate design of Candice’s dress to the ceremonial swords they included, the cultural details were beautiful, unique, and completely true to them.
After the ceremony, everyone gathered for a yummy lunch buffet. It felt more like a family gathering than a formal reception. The food was delicious, the laughter was flowing, and the cake and cupcakes—baked by a dear friend—were a total hit.
Later in the afternoon, the couple had a ceremony at the temple. Here we met up again for a few portraits on the expansive grounds. It was such a peaceful way to wrap up the day, with just the two of them taking a moment to soak it all in after their second ceremony. It’s not every wedding day that includes both a morning lodge ceremony and an afternoon at the temple, and I loved getting to document both.
If you’re dreaming of a wedding that blends natural beauty with meaningful details, Lake Wilderness Lodge in Maple Valley, WA is a hidden gem. And if you’re planning an intimate celebration full of heart like Steven and Candice’s, I’d be honored to help tell your story.
